The rugged land and sandy dunes of Izki are often called “craggy old deserts.” In fact, the area is so remote that it’s difficult to even get a plane in for much of the year. But the sheer wildness of the landscape and the idyllic coastal temperate climate of Oman make it one of the most popular travel destinations in the Middle East. The cool climate and rich marine life featured in this part of the world make it a favorite for many nature trippers. One thing that is not usually seen in this desert is an attraction.
Izki is a desert town in the southern region of Oman, located at c.539m high elevation. It has a population of just 35,163 and is found at sea level. You’ll find many nature attractions here like salt pans and coral reefs, as well as beautiful oases and other marine formations. There are a couple of fascinating marine attractions near the town, which is perfect if you like to watch the beautiful sunsets over the horizon.
Since the town is high up in a mountain, one of its most popular attractions is climbing. There are many treks available, which take about a day to complete. But if you’re the sort of person who likes to do activities whilst getting some exercise, you can hire a bike or a horse for the day and just do the trekking. If you want more of a workout, you can go for the various sports activities available in the area, including tennis, golf and badminton. Other activities include kayaking, mountain biking, hiking, mountaineering and river rafting.
For visitors who like culture and other forms of entertainment, there is plenty to enjoy in the towns of Izki and Oman. There is a museum with a permanent exhibit on the history of the region, as well as numerous cultural exhibits that you can browse through. There are several types of traditional folk arts and crafts which visitors can take part in. If you are looking for activities that are more outdoorsy, try kayaking, mountain biking, hiking and a number of other interesting outdoor activities.
One of the most popular sights for tourists to Izki and Oman is the Waha River, located on the western coast. There is an enormous waterway that flows through the town and connects it to the Waha River, on the opposite side. This waterway was originally created by the ancient Wakashis tribe, who used it to draw water from the surrounding natural environment. It has since become one of the most popular tourist attractions in Iziki and Oman, especially for those who enjoy canoeing, kayaking, rafting, swimming, kayaking and other forms of water activity. You can also sit and paddle amongst the pristine waters of the Waha River, as well as watch for the local fishermen as they take to the water to bring in their catch. The waterway is only 20m long, but it offers visitors an excellent view of this particular area, as well as providing a perfect opportunity to see and witness some of the more rare animal life in the area.
Other popular attractions in Iziki include the Al-Karaouine Mosque and Community Center, located in the center of town. Here, visitors can learn more about the history of Iziki and the Sultanate of Oman, as well as more about local arts and crafts. There is also a light house, known as the Light House mosque, located within its grounds. This is where you will learn more about the beliefs and practices of the Omani people. You may also want to learn more about the history of Islamic art during your stay here, and take part in a guided excursion into the various museums and galleries within the town itself.
